In September 2019, the new owners endorsed the proposal to construct a modernized cutting and packaging room at the Macri Road facility, to process locally grown animals to export standards, with the specific intention of diversifying its product range to offer more chilled products for domestic and export markets. The infrastructure and output deliverables of this $3.58 million project includes:
Detailed project planning and design work was undertaken from October 2019 – April 2020. Following a competitive tendering process Dakina Constructions was awarded the construction contract and secured a Building Licence from the Shire of Woodanilling on 24 May. Construction of the new cutting and packaging room (items 1-5 of the above list) commenced in mid-June and the construction works (including fit out) was completed by 9 August 2020.
While the $433,600 fire hydrant and ring main system is an important and necessary component of the overall cutting, packaging, and export chiller project, we are very privileged that our project was supported by an $82,000 Regional Economic Development Grant through the Great Southern Development Commission.
This $3.58 million investment will enable BRM to increase its workforce, improve productivity and importantly will enable value adding and greatly expanded chilled production; ultimately it will generate increased profits for the company and will generate economic benefits for the Shire of Woodanilling and surrounding areas.
Strategically this project will position BRM with the capacity to access more international and domestic markets for chilled high-quality meat products and it will offer additional added value capacity.
